Honest Before Billable
We tell clients when they don't need something, and recommend the cheaper fix when it's the right one. No invented urgency, and no selling security with fear.
Work With Us
We're adding experienced technicians to take on-site and remote jobs for our home and business clients across Pinellas County and Tampa Bay. It's independent contract work: you accept the jobs that fit, and pay starts at 40% of the hourly rate the client is billed for your time.
Independent contract · On call · Pinellas and Tampa Bay
Why Now
Bay Geeks has looked after computers in St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay since 2004. Our business clients on Premium and Advanced plans have a 2-hour response target during business hours, and we aim for two hours with every client.
A technician can only be in one place at a time, so we're building a small group of on-call technicians who can take the next call while another job is underway.
Households, including older adults who want patient help, and small businesses: law firms, accounting firms, medical practices, assisted living, retail and restaurants. They're spread across Pinellas County, from Tarpon Springs to South St. Pete, plus Tampa and Brandon.
The tools you'll see: N-able for monitoring, patching and endpoint protection, Adlumin for 24/7 detection on Advanced plans, Backblaze for cloud backup, TeamViewer, Zoho Desk and Microsoft 365. Experience with them helps.
How We Work
These are the rules Bay Geeks runs on. Everyone who works with us keeps them.
We tell clients when they don't need something, and recommend the cheaper fix when it's the right one. No invented urgency, and no selling security with fear.
Our prices are on this site, not made up at the door. If you spot something else a client needs, tell us and we'll quote it.
If we can't fix it, the client doesn't pay for our time, and every repair carries a 30-day warranty on labor. That's our Fix-It Guarantee.
Plan clients come first, then other business clients, then everyone else in the order they called. Existing clients are always ahead of new ones.
What you found, what you did and what's next go on the client's ticket, in words the client could read.
We look after clients' files, passwords and, at medical practices, patient records. Everyone who touches a client system follows our written information security program.
What You Can Expect
Pay starts at 40% of the hourly rate the client is billed for your time. Each job offer shows the rate before you accept. Our current rates are on the pricing page.
Just as important: you can explain a problem to someone who isn't technical, patiently and in plain English. Many of our clients are households and older adults.

Common Questions
Contract work. You'd be an independent contractor, paid for the jobs you accept and reported on Form 1099. We're not hiring employees right now.
Pay starts at 40% of the hourly rate the client is billed for your time: at our posted rates, $50 an hour on a home job and $70 on a business job. Each job offer shows the rate before you accept. What you earn in a month depends on how many jobs you take, and we don't promise a number.
Most of what we need is someone who can get to a client quickly, so a vehicle and some weekday availability are required. Remote sessions are part of the work, not all of it.
No particular certificate is required. We look for hands-on experience at about CompTIA A+ level or better with Windows, Microsoft 365 and small office networks.
In St. Petersburg, and it sees clients by appointment only. Most of the work happens at clients' homes and offices, or remotely.
