Bay Geeks Guide · How It Works Step by Step

How Remote IT Support Actually Works

If you've never done a remote support session, it can feel like handing a stranger the keys to your computer. Here's exactly what happens, so there's nothing to worry about.

The Short Version

You click a link, approve the connection, and a Bay Geeks technician can see and control your screen — the same way it would look if they were sitting at your desk. You watch everything happen in real time, and the connection ends the moment the session is closed.

Step by Step

1. Call or open a ticket

Tell us what's wrong in your own words — no need to diagnose it yourself first.

2. We send you a secure connection link

Click it, and you'll be prompted to approve the connection. Nothing happens on your device until you say yes.

3. You watch the technician work

Your mouse and keyboard will move as the technician works — this is normal, and you can take back control or end the session at any point.

4. Billing starts when work starts

Remote support is billed in 15-minute increments, so a quick fix costs a fraction of the full hourly rate.

5. Session ends, connection closes completely

Once we're done, the remote access session is fully closed — there's no ongoing access to your device afterward.

What Remote Support Can (and Can't) Fix

Usually Fixable Remotely

Software & Setup

  • Viruses and malware
  • Slow performance tune-ups
  • Email, printer, and account setup
  • Software installs and troubleshooting
Needs On-Site

Hardware & Physical

  • A computer that won't power on
  • Physical hardware failures
  • New wiring or network installation
  • Security camera setup

Is It Safe?

Yes. The connection is encrypted, requires your explicit approval to begin, and you can see everything happening on your own screen the entire time. Nothing is installed permanently, and access ends the moment the session closes.
